BIANNUAL ZONE MEETING WRAP UP

Back on December 9, 2006 , fourteen individuals got together to participate in the Mountain Zone Biannual Meeting.  Held in Kearns , Utah , there were twelve people present (eight from Utah , two from Arizona , one from Nevada , and one from Colorado ) and two people on the conference call (one from Nevada and one from Utah ).  There was a lot of great discussion about how to grow the sport in our zone, both in quantity and quality.  Reports were given from Zone Chair Brad Peercy, including membership statistics from each state (link) and from last year’s Zone Team Coaches.  There was a lot of discussion concerning the 2007 Zone Team Selection Process.  The general consensus of those at the meeting were to continue with general process from last year (link).  There was only one substantive change made to the Zone Policies and Procedures, which stipulates that members of the Zone Executive Board must abstain from voting for zone team coach if they are on the ballot for a particular age group.  Other housekeeping changes were approved due to changes in the USA Water Polo By-Laws.  The revised Zone Policies and Procedures have been posted on the zone website.  Elections were also conducted and the following people were elected to positions for 2007-2008:

Zone Chair – Brad Peercy, Kearns , UT

Zone Executive Board (in addition to Zone Chair) – Mike Goldhardt, Jordan, UT, Don Lewis, Magna, UT, Joe Peila, Las Vegas, NV, Robbie Bova, Tempe, AZ.

Representatives to the USA Water Polo Assembly

Mike Goldhardt, Don Lewis, Joe Peila, Mark St. John (athlete), Las Vegas , NV , Brad Peercy.

Representative to National Referees Committee – Joe Peila

Representative to National Coaches Committee – German Lopez, Phoenix , AZ

Representative to National Development Committee – Mike Goldhardt

Representative to National Events Committee – Paul Miernicki, Phoenix , AZ

There was also discussion about next year’s events and tournaments and the feeling that it would be helpful for everyone if the events for the upcoming year could be posted on the zone website as soon as possible.  SO ANYONE PLANNING TO HOST A TOURNAMENT IN 2007 SHOULD EMAIL BRAD PEERCY WITH THE DATES.

Thank you to those that participated!
